You can be anything in the world and it just takes a good concept, creativity and some DIY work to make it happen. This year I wanted to make my costume from scratch. I finished my costume today after a couple days of work and preparation. My boyfriend Mike and I wanted to do a couple costume and chose a pirate and parrot combo.
I bought everything I used for this costume in a fabric and craft store. I only spent Php500 ($11) for the tule, fabric, feathers, garter and the tiny hat. The stockings, fingerless gloves and top I already had. I’m very satisfied with the outcome because it looks very coordinated. It’s definitely something I can party in seeing that it looks and feels like a themed party ensemble with fun accessories.
The skirt is a basic DIY garter skirt. I sewed the feathers one by one and used a simple feather pattern to cut the colored fabric. For the wings, I got shoulder pads and sewed the feathers on and attached a garter around it. I made a big layered tule skirt and attached feathers around the waist area. I bought a hat that had the existing black tule and feather on it and added more feathers.
Waterproof It!

It gives you peace of mind that your valuables and equipment are protected. I do a lot of backpack island traveling in the Philippines and no matter what month I am traveling, it would rain at random. Having waterproof cases for my camera gear and laptop is a priority. Backpacking is the best way to travel and doing so means that most of the time you have all of your stuff with you. Whether you’re driving a motorbike during a storm or on a boat for island hopping, preparedness to face all the elements gives you freedom to explore and enjoy your travel activities.
I made water repellent laptop sleeves using tarpaulin. I picked the designs and got it printed for very cheap. Printing on tarpaulin cost me 100 Pesos ($2.03) and sewing with the zippers cost me 150 Pesos ($3.50).
